Well, I've always been told that in a case like that I should stop taking the methotrexate, but never been told to go for emergency bloods. Not really sure what to advise, hopefully someone will know.
Are you on antibiotics?
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Katie,

I've been told the same as Julie, if I have an infection stop taking the antibiotics, never been told to have extra blood tests.
Are you just on mtx? It doesn't mask symptoms , just can delay healing so I think you would be ok to see how you are tomorrow, but for peace of mind you would be better to ring NHS direct to see what they advise.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Katie

I have been on Methotrexate many years. The recommendation is that methotrexate is stopped whilst taking antibiotics as the two do interact. Generally to do with poor absorption of the antibiotic due to the toxicity of the mtx and the stomach lining I believe. Whoever prescribed and dispensed your prescription should have made you aware of this at the time.

Emergency bloods unnecessary I would have thought, unless something really unexpected occurs. Unfortunately I think NHS Direct may be unable to advise; in my experience they seem very unaware of RA and accompanying medicines. If you feel okay just stop the mtx and complete the course of antibiotics. If you are on any anti-tnf you will need to stop that too.

Hope this helps and you feel better soon,

Thanks for all your advice. i think i will sleep on it and hope my glands go down.
Doctor was an emergency one who gave me the antibiotics and said i could still take meth. I decided not to take it last night as my normal doctor would never had advised it.

Thanks againSmile

well you can take 2 types of Anti bo ics with MTX as i spend a lot of time on them long term .And don,t come off .
but don,t take my word for it . Some you do or most you do

Also double check as g.p s may be well trained but may only have had a few hours training on R.A AND mtx .
My doc has too ring someone as he does not know enough . you might be ok on emermiclm ( spelt wrong bright red pill )
or cyciermisin ( spelt wrong ) yellow pill
